London

Just been to London for a couple of days. Went to a few fabulous exhibitions-

JoLoMo (John Lowrie Morrison) at La Galleria

Lettie Blackett at the Strand Gallery

Designing Women at the Fashion and Textile Museum

Loads more inspiration for future work!

We also felt very privaleged to be able to view some Palestinian textiles at the British Museum

New Quilt

I finally finished my Indain women quilt yesterday. It’s much larger than I normally work and it was a bit of an experiment. I wasnt quite certain about it and whether it looked right but now that I have hung it up I think I quite like it. It’s given me the confidence now to tackle the next one that will be big as well. Not huge but bigger than i normally work

Indian Block printed Fabric

The fabric for my flower kits is currently being printed by Nandu in India. i can’t believe that after so many emails it is almost finally ready. Here are some photos of the first stage of printing.

One of the photos shows Nandu’s son

Yellow

Yesterday i worked on my Yellow May Journal Quilt.

Here it is finished – it is based on the buildings in Brittany that I saw whilst i was exhibiting as part of the Quiltmania show in Nantes.

I painted a background yellow, painted some fabric shades of brown and appliqued them in place. I laid them all on to a sheet of baking parchment to make sure I got them in the right places.

This morning was such a beautiful morning I went to take some photographs – so not far from home there are so many images that couls inspire me to make quilts. Some rural some urban.

Holidays

I’ve had a couple of days holiday in the Lake District. Beautiful weather but a bit chilly. The bluebells at this time of year are always beautiful. Pity it isnt time to do a blue A4 quilt. Now I just need some inspiration for a yellow quilt

Pour L’Amour du Fil

i have been having difficulty with downloading pictures but I am going to try again tonight. There is so much that i want to add to my blog as so much seems to have happened in the last week – lots of lovely things!

It was such a pleasure to be able to share my work with all the lovely freanch people who came to the show. Even though I cant speak much French it is still possible to communicate with many hand gestures. I had such a fun time with many of the other artists exhibiting there and have made some very special friends Kathy and John from Australia. Kathy is the owner of Material Obsession Patchwork and Quilting shop in Sydney. Brigitte Giplin also from Australia who makes some amazing hand stitched quilts.

I feel so inspired now to keep going and do more teaching etc

More to follow tomorrow!
