Woke up to gorgeous sunshine that sadly turned int Woke up to gorgeous sunshine that sadly turned into a day of some sun, wind and occasional rain showers. The Acropolis was very busy, the changing sky colours made it spectacular but there are so many people visiting. After Ephesus it was rather disappointing There are some small and very beautiful Greek Orthodox churches in Athens Visited the museum of Popular Art and Tradition the Benaki museum of Greek Culture and Little Kook to see the Halloween display. Athens is such a lovely walkable city but there are lots of tourists #athens
It’s 50 years since I was last in Athens ( that’s scary) I was a young back packer, now I’m just an old back packer, with just as much energy and enthusiasm. I’ve had an amazing summer with daily temperatures of over 30 degrees, but today felt very cold and windy. Let’s hope the weather improves #athens

Whilst in Turkey I discovered Arabi rugs from East Whilst in Turkey I discovered Arabi rugs from Eastern Turkey. They are chain stitched and are no longer being made. Inspired by the colours I bought some crochet cotton whilst in Istanbul and this week I started to stitch into a linen jacket I bought from Vinted. The chain stitches are large and chunky so it’s not too time consuming. I’ve started a cushion cover as a traveling project, with a background of soft linen it should be so nice to do whilst waiting for planes and on trains etc. Getting the right background, the right thread, the right needle, the right design motifs etc all takes so much thought and time, it’s the design process and I love this stage Watch my progress, although it may be slow Fiona bought some crochet cotton too. When I did my City and Guilds in Embroidery more t When I did my City and Guilds in Embroidery more than 30 years ago I made a very large quilted felt hanging. I did loads of research about felt, and went on to teach City and Guilds in Feltmaking. That’s when I first read about the artisans in a small town in Turkey where they made felt Tire has the biggest market in Turkey and is held on a Tuesday Today in Tire I tracked down a couple of felt makers in the town, many are no longer making felt. The only way they can sell products now, is to make the felt by machine and make 25 scarves at a time and they sell internationally but also to local tourists They use merino roving from Australia and New Zealand and local silk to make nuno felt I was mildly disappointed not to find felt makers in a traditional setting but Tire was well worth visiting. As always it made me want to go home and make some felt Interesting - they import felt from Nepal to sell in the shops in Tire #turkey #hotandsunny☀️ #inspiring

I found out a couple of weeks ago that a parcel co I found out a couple of weeks ago that a parcel containing 6 of my quilts that has quilts that were displayed at the quilt show in Brno was lost. I have tried to convince myself that it will eventually turn up I’m sure it will Yesterday I realised why I have temporarily lost my mojo for making quilts Of course, it’s the lost quilts that’s caused it With a few weeks at home I decided to make a few new clothes with fabric that I’ve been meaning to use for months My Mexican top was made with fabric from India. I designed a block inspired by floral images seen on the clothes in the museum in Valladolid in Mexico. Fiona had it made, and then the fabric was printed in India. I made the pattern from a top I bought on Vinted Adding some hand stitching to the fabric would look good Come to Mexico with us next year to be inspired There’s only one space left Www.creative-arts-safaris.com I also made a top using fabric from Vietnam It’s the Zoe Kimono top - excellent instructions #creativeartssafaris #zoepattern
8 years ago I used to walk to the top of the hill, 8 years ago I used to walk to the top of the hill, it was very therapeutic. I’ve walked many times since then. Our moors are still relatively green and the heather a lovely purple colour So much has happened in 8 years.
