This morning 30 8 – 10 year old school children came to visit me in my studio, they came to see how an artist works. They were so well behaved and asked many questions. We discussed selling my work, how long it takes to make a piece, where to sell them etc. We discussed what inspired me to make my quilts and I did a machine stitched demonstration. It was a very positive experience, it made me tidy my studio a bit and I hope the children went away thinking if they want to be an artist then it is possible if you are talented and work hard then it is possible.
The teachers should feel proud of their pupils
The week before last I gave a talk and workshop to Bristol quilters, it was lovely to meet up with old friends. I didn’t want to take my computer as I was going on to France so I ran my slide show from my ipad. I could have run it from my phone. It took ages for me to work it out but well worth it.
On Saturday I returned from teaching in France. I taught a week long residential in France at Crafty Retreats near Limoges.
Sitting in the sunshine today writing this remembering my week I am smiling thinking of all the lovely women, each one special in so many ways. There was so much laughter,
kindness, encouragement and friendship.
Evening drinks at Michelle’s
Phillipa and Fran run a great well equipped centre with a lovely light studio and plenty of space to work.
It is in a beautiful rural setting and I managed plenty of fresh air and exercise setting off at 7 every morning with a couple of the others for an hours walk before breakfast.
Even walks in the evening
The weather was hot and sunny and we had time off from stitching with a very flexible programme to go to visit the nearby Flea markets,
This is what they look like now that I have painted them
and medieval towns
but also spent many hours in the studio.
Learning new skills
I taught my Interchange Applique. notan and inlay techniques with some great results.
Apologies if I have not included any ones work
I think it is a credit to Phil and Fran that they are almost fully booked for this year with many ladies returning to attend a different class.
I am teaching again next year at their new place in Cornwall Proper Crafty and already have a few bookings. Lets hope for good food, fun and friendship.
It is in March and titled Something Fishy
I’ll be posting some pictures of the work we will be doing another time.
