Back from Guatemala and on to Germany.
I was invited to go to Germany to teach at the Ramstein Army and Naval Base near Frankfurt by some American women I met in Prague last year. I packed my things, filled my suitcase to maximum weight allowed and set off allowing myself some time in Frankfurt first to visit a couple of museums that I wanted to go to.
First was the World Cultures Museum where there is a fabulous exhibition on about weaving.
Reminded me so much of the weaving course I did in Guatemala.
Next door is the Applied Arts museum where there was an exhibition about the recent German Design awards.
Frankfurt looked good in the sunshine
Here are a couple more pictures
and I loved these
I caught the train to the Ramstein base.
It has been such a fun weekend and I feel like I have been to the USA for the weekend.
The supermarket stocks American food, all paid for in dollars, the restaurants are like being in the States, and almost everyone is American.
I taught a couple of classes and gave a talk. Everyone I have met has been so lovely, welcoming and I feel so lucky.
Thanks to Donna for inviting me – You have such an amazing home, I love it and am secretly very envious of all the beautiful pieces you have collected from around the world. We spent many hours talking about travels in Uzbekistan, Guatemala, India and Europe.
Thanks to Michael for going out specially to buy me some English tea and English biscuits
Thanks to all the ladies – I am really looking forward to seeing your finished pieces. Enjoy your retreat – I’d love to be there with you all
Thanks to Megan for reminding me why I love teaching so much. Megan is a young mum who is talented and was looking for a way to combine her love of drawing and painting with a love of textiles. When she saw my work and listened to my talk she was so excited. I cant keep teaching forever and we need younger ones to be inspired and make stunning contemporary quilts.
With another busy week ahead of me I doubt I will get my website completely finished but at least my blog seems to be almost …not quite….right now.
I’ll be at Olympia at the Knitting and Stitching Show next weekend – teaching and selling my books and kits – looking forward to catching up with friends in London
I need to post some more of my Guatemala pictures.
