Holiday or working?
Many months ago we found some really cheap flights to Houston, going to the biggest quilt show in the World has been on my bucket list for some time, so we booked to go to Quilt Market, and Quilt festival. Quilt market is the trade show and Quilt festival for general public.
Fabulous quilts, good company, chance to see friends, fabric to drool over, new products and a chance to meet some of my favourite designers was such a great experience.
I took loads of photos of downtown Houston and all the high rise buildings. I love the changing colours of the buildings and I’m sure I will make a couple of journal quilts based on these photos.
One of the good things about going to Quilt Market is the chance to see the quilts before the general public see them. They are displayed well and there are lots of them. Here are just a few of my favourites – more to come in another post
I do hope I have all the makers names and details correct
I will post more in my next post
I bought lots of fabric at Quilt market but what I really wanted to see were the new products, and there are lots of them. I have collected so many new things to show to my students and demonstrate to make some of my quilts a little bit easier to make.
Some great new tools from martellinotions.com that will slice the strips for my Quirky birds class so easily with their new rotary cutter that will take a bit of getting used to. They will also be really useful for the Interlaced class. I have loads more all packed away in my suitcase. So much experimenting to do once i get back home. I have a plan to order some of Paulines tape makers and it was lovely to see her at Houston.
I went to listen to a talk by Alison Glass, I just love her quilts and the colours. Victoria Findlay Wolfe and Tula Pinks talks were very inspiring too.
Sorry Alison – this is not the best photo of you
I have masses of fabric that i hope to put to good use for my classes at festival of Quilts next year. Being there this year was so hard, but I’m glad I went. I have started on a new set of quilts for display on my stand there next year but I’m not going to show them yet. They are a bit different to my usual quilts.
More to come in another post, in a few days time
